IKO Instructor Reinstatement Course UK

Been away from teaching? The IKO Instructor Reinstatement Course provides a structured route for eligible former IKO instructors to update their knowledge, demonstrate their teaching standard and work towards reactivating an expired certificate.

Who it is for

Coming back to the beach.

  • Existing IKO instructors whose certificate has been expired for more than two years
  • Candidates with no open IKO Quality Control cases
  • Instructors who want to return to active teaching under current standards

If your certification expired more recently, a different renewal route may apply — please contact IKO or Zenith Kiting before booking anything.

Course requirements are set by IKO and may occasionally change. Contact Zenith Kiting for the latest eligibility information before booking.

The process

How reinstatement works.

Module 1 · Online preparation
  • Contact IKO and enrol through the required process
  • Receive access to the current Assistant and Instructor manuals
  • Study the updated material
  • Pass the required online examination before progressing
Module 2 · Examiner assessment
  • Complete the required instructor examination under an IKO Examiner
  • Teach a real beginner student under direct examiner supervision
  • Receive a practical teaching evaluation
  • Complete the process in suitable wind conditions

The official IKO page currently describes the in-person module as one day, approximately five hours, but timing can depend on the assessment and on suitable teaching conditions.

Important assessment information

Please read before booking.

  • Passing is not automatic
  • Candidates receive one attempt at the applicable in-person exam under the current IKO process
  • If the required examination or teaching standard is not met, the Instructor Equivalency Course may be needed
  • Final reinstatement is controlled by IKO

Conditions matter.

The teaching assessment requires suitable conditions for a genuine beginner lesson — the student has to have a real chance to learn. If conditions are unsuitable on the day, the practical assessment may need to be rearranged. We plan around the forecast and keep you informed as the date approaches.
