Entry requirements

Before you book.

  • Minimum age: 16
  • IKO Advanced rider level, or the current required equivalent
  • Assistant online course completed before the live course
  • Appropriate personal fitness and water confidence

Set the tone: professional standards, safety systems, rigging and equipment care done properly every time.

Briefings, signals, positioning and hands-on assisting — learning how to be genuinely useful beside an instructor.

Kite theory and technical understanding

Aerodynamics, flight, depower and control. Understanding why a kite behaves the way it does.

Weather, water and real teaching situations

Forecast reading, tide, spot assessment and risk management applied to live sessions on the beach.

Evaluation, feedback and your next step

Practical and knowledge evaluations, honest one-to-one feedback and a plan for the Instructor Course.

Then on to the Instructor Course.

On successful completion of the Assistant Course — subject to meeting the required standard — you are prepared to move on to the IKO Instructor Course, where you learn to plan and deliver full lessons with real students under examiner assessment.
