A FUN filled weekend in Essex
With all this entertainment on for offer the Zenith Kiting team is super excited to see you all enjoying the amazing vibe, the numerous watersports and the selections of food and drink all at Clacton beach in sunny Essex.
Last year’s event drew crowds of 50,000 on the first day and packed out the town’s seafront and beaches.
Previous entertainment included punch and Judy, arts and crafts workshops, a storytelling tent, face painting, stalls along the promenade and a colourful procession from Clacton Town Hall to the West Beach. On the water there were boat trips on the Viking Saga Pleasure Boat, the James Stevens No 14, the oldest motorised lifeboat in the world, paddle boarding, kitesurfing, kayaking and canoeing .
The British Kitesurfing Championships will be taking place with more than 100 competitors expected to be challenging for the honours. The championships are the pinnacle of the sport in the UK and it focuses on freestyle, something the country has been very successful in on the world stage. Last year’s event was dominated by Ireland’s Sean Murphy who is lined up to defend his title this year. Along with the professional fleets the championship also has a strong focus on amateur competition and there will be encouragement for local riders to take part too. In addition the British Slalom Association, part of the UK Windsurfing Association, will stage race four of the National Slalom Series as part of the festival. There will also be a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Boarding event put on by the British SUP Association. Top competitors in the country will be taking part in both events.
Both Gunfleet Sailing Club and Clacton Sailing Club have announced races to coincide with the two days of the festival. On the Saturday dinghies from the Gunfleet Sailing Club, based a mile to the east of Clacton Pier, will sail past West Beach with the aim of landing ashore just west of Martello Bay. Then the next day there will be a pursuit race, starting from the Gunfleet Club along to West Beach where a triangular course will be set. The slowest craft will be heading off at 11am with the rest following at staggered times – with the fastest last away. The winner will be the boat in the lead at the finish at 12.30pm. Also on Sunday at 3pm the Clacton Sailing Club will be holding a catamaran race, beginning at its HQ two miles east of Clacton Pier, up to the West Beach and back.
LIVE music 11.30am until 5.30pm on Sunday and an extended time of 9.00pm on Saturday! A variety of bands and singers joining on both days so there will be a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day and night.
